Summer is here and it's outdoor dinner and show at Hollywood Bowl time!
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Westside Story, MGM and the Hollywood Bowl is presenting a world-premiere event for the first show of the Summer.
The LA Phil plays Leonard Bernstein’s electrifying orchestral score, while the newly re-mastered film is shown in high definition on the Bowl’s big screen with the original vocals and dialog intact.
This was my first time seeing WSS and I was thoroughly spoiled with this experience. Visually, the remastered film was mesmerizing. Once I got past the obvious  makeup to make many of the non-Spanish actors Sharks appear Puerto Rican, the rest of the film is flawless; the dancers, the wardrobe, the choreography, the set design, hairstyle, photography, lighting, and obviously the music and lyrics...every frame was visually arresting.

I grew up with Carole King vinyls playing on my parent's record player, so it was a treat to see the two iconic singer-songwriters at their Troubadour Reunion Tour last night at the Hollywood Bowl - the title of the tour refers to the first time the pair appeared onstage together, at the legendary Troubadour in West Hollywood in November 1970.
I've always been a fan of Carole's raw and resonant vocals and found it completely inspiring seeing her and James dance and sing with the passion and vigor of performers at any age.
Here's a Blackberry clip from last night - Thanks to Pete and Myrian for sharing their amazing box with us.
