A big part of being an interior designer is often helping clients come to some sort of a compromise amongst themselves. He may love stripes and leather....but she may prefer patterns and anything but leather. So this brings us to...
DESIGNER DRAMA, CASE STUDY #8: I've been designing homes in Los Angeles since I was 22, and still one of the most common marital furniture controversies that I run into surrounds the family room coffee table. He wants to put his feet up (possibly missing his fraternity house recliner), but she isn't thrilled with the thought of his shoes on a custom finished walnut top. He wants extra seating for Superbowl, but she would love to display her preciously selected accessories.
ANSWER: An ottoman/coffee table upholstered with a sturdy, yet elegant fabric that can withstand kids, animals, spills, and motorcycle boots. I'll place a fine wood tray atop to hold select accessories...also great for hors d'ouvers and cocktails. For the times that require extra seating, clear the tray and move to where needed.
